Wanderlust With Sophie Ellis-Bextor

Thursday, October 17, 2013

Acts primarily known for their fireball dance grooves often find themselves second guessed whenever they try to branch out to calmer aural waters. Sophie Ellis-Bextor might raise a few eyebrows and froth up some qualms with her upcoming venture as she's planning to have a permanent cool down with next year's Wanderlust.

Well...that's what I'm gathering from the album's pensive announcement trailer (after the cut), its Anne Of Green Gables inspired album art, and the gorgeous Ed Harcourt produced demo, "Young Blood" that has been making the rounds as of recent.

Actually if you're familiar with SEB's material, she has dove into quieter material before. Songs like "Today's The Sun's On Us" and "Nowhere Without You" come to mind, and have me a bit confident that Sophie shedding her sequins and pulsating dance anthems will be a nice little detour. I mean, artists have to grow and expand don't they? Only thing is that we'll have to wait till January of next year for us to get the full experience. In the meantime, the tracklist is out (and after the cut) and there is a ballpark release date which is comforting considering all that mess we went through two years ago when we didn't think Make A Scene was going to be reality --- so things are already off to a good start.

Wanderlust Tracklist

Runaway Daydreamer
The Deer & The Wolf
Young Blood
13 Little Dolls

  1. I think this is more of a return to her Brit-pop roots with theaudience, the group she began with in the late 1990's. For me it isn't so much a departure but a return, but I like that Sophie proves that dance and pop are two separate entities.-QH
