Disclosure + Sam Smith + Nile Rodgers = Exactly What You Think It Would Sound Like
Friday, November 15, 2013
What do you get when you cross Disclosure with Sam Smith, Nile Rodgers and Jimmy Napes? You get a JAM sound sandwich. And I mean J-A-M. All sweet, sticky, and overflowing to the point that you need some sort of bread deal to sop it all up.
It was noted through the nerve systems of social media that Nile Rodgers (who has had a very good year concerning his comeback with Daft Punk), was to be working with none other than the newest cool kids on the block, Disclosure and Sam Smith (whom both have had very good years as well). So today, that rumored collaboration is now a historical fact, and you bet the arithmetic delivers the right solution as "Together" is exactly how I would want a collaboration between these cats to sound like. It's some serious sticky synth-funk that gives off vivid shades of D'Angelo and (but of course) Prince diction, and it does a lot of serious funkin' in the less than three minute timeslot it is allowed --- which is a good sign. As this is dubbed a one-off collaboration from these four, there is no telling that they might give this another go. Here's hoping that they unite again, and real soon.
