Solange Cashes It In
Wednesday, November 13, 2013
My fingers are about to fall off as I have been typing and writing like a mad woman these last few days, this all thanks me participating in National Novel Writing Month again, and SoulBounce kicking off our infamous Class Of series. Word whipped, I am. Still this is Solange we're talking about and she can interrupt my 2,000 word count goal all she wants, especially when she's got something new cooking in her aural crock pot.
As her follow-up to her massive, True EP, seems to be a rumor and a year away, Solange has opted to tease with the dream pop trance of "Cash In", which continues the singer into the alternative R&B realm she so nicely nestles in. The song won't stop traffic, may even tread waters Solange has done before with more clarity, but it's still worth a check out, especially to note it's origin. Solange's label, Saint Heron, has compiled a 12-track set that introduces the label and its goal to expand you mind beyond the usual borders of R&B. Featuring such new kid visionaries like Jhene Aiko, Kelela, Jade J, Petite Noir, and BC Kingdom, and with a familiar name or two (Cassie and Sampha), Saint Heron's roster is an eyebrow raise of interest that should appease even the most stubborn music listener. You can stream the full project over at Spotify, or catch choice cuts over at Saint Heron's SoundCloud stream.
