Cerrone Changes Up HAIM's Mind

Tuesday, April 1, 2014

In a past life I haunted Studio 54. I'm sure of this. I was right there spinning around in glitter and clinging gold lame right alongside Bianca Jagger and Grace Jones, so it's refixes like this that give me a sense of where I once, no should've, belonged. I can't stress enough how much I adore HAIM's "If I Could Change Your Mind" and the latest single from Days Are Gone has gotten a stylish redressing by being in the good hands of Italo-disco icon, Cerrone. Subtracting the grind of guitars and substituting in a bright brass backing the track is now a twirly and swirly mirror ball of glossy funk that is primed for the grooveline. Easily this is the best remix I've heard from the HAIM camp (and they have been difficult to remix by the way) as this one even shoos the "Forever" redress by the other iconic Italo-disco producer, Giorgio Moroder right off of the dancefloor.
