Emily King's Long Distance Still Life Affair

Friday, May 2, 2014

Music videos have to be extra special for me to give a damn these days, so thank you Emily King for providing a visual that is pleasing to the eye as well as the ear. In the glue grey gloom of winter, King quietly emerged with the piano-pop of "Distance" and it melted some of the muck off of the 'polar vortex' nonsense we had to go through. "Distance" fits better with this season, along with its Paul Jung-directed visual which pops with crisp color and abstract visuals. The shots remind me a lot of the still life photography posted on one favored Tumblr --- just the vivid, clean sharpness mixing with the random subject matter just brings it to mind.

Also, is it just me or has this song gotten even better with this video?
