Usher Lip Locks With 'Good Kisser'

Wednesday, May 7, 2014

It's weird to say but Usher hasn't been on my radar in quite some time. Sure I knew he was still in existence with his stint as a judge on The Voice and various celebrity endeavors that captured the eye on gossip sites every now and then, but from about 2006 onward his music went off onto an uninspiring tangent of techo-electro spiced up R&B, and well, he just lost me. Now Usher is trying to tell me he's back on the R&B sauce with his latest single, "Good Kisser", and he surprisingly comes correct on this steamy groover.

Okay, the bad news: The lyrics of "Good Kisser" are kindergarten R&B at best, as they are clunky, lazy, and just kill the sensual high that Usher eggs on. Now for the good news: the modernized basslined funk, tumbles of sharp percussion, and Usher's confident croon once the chorus pours out all honey sweet gets him back to where he belongs and yep, I breathed a sigh of relief. Relief. As usual, Usher also provides a visual aid for "Good Kisser", and it might get some of y'all hot (Shameless objectifying time: Ursh believes his shirt is overrated), but eh, I rather make love to the bassline in the song...but that is just me. While I'm not pinning my My Way poster back up just yet, Usher has piqued my interest for whatever he's bringing to the table this year and yes, please sir, I'd like some more of this.
